On 9th November 2021, the Ministry of Commerce (“MOC”) issued its Newsletter No. 18/2021 to prescribe a new list of goods that are subject to an import license for foreign exchange control.
The goods of approximately 4,498 items under the Harmonized System (HS) Codes that contain 6 digits and 10 digits HS, such as electronic goods, cosmetics, consumer goods, and construction materials, are prescribed under this newsletter. These also include certain types of goods under the HS Code that contain 10 digits but they are not listed in the Notification No. 68/2020 dated 22nd October 2020. Effective from 1st January 2022, an import license must be obtained from the MOC before importing of those goods into Myanmar.
