The Intellectual property Department (IPD) of Myanmar uses online filing system for IP rights holders to file applications for registration of trademarks, designs, patents and copyrights. The system runs 24 hours and seven days a week. The IPD also allows applicants file IPR applications physically at the filing counters at the IPD offices in Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyidaw and by post.
The online filing system was down from 28th March 2025 to 6th April 2025 after the very strong earthquake of 7.7 Richter hit the central region of Myanmar (mainly Sagaing, Mandalay and Naypyidaw) on 28th March 2025 causing over 3,000 casualties and countless injured or missing persons. Over 70% of the infrastructures and the public and private buildings in Naypyidaw suffered significant damage.
The IPD office in Naypyidaw was also damaged but the IPD could still accept IP applications filed physically at the filing counter of their Yangon office. Applicants could still file applications and responses to the IPD office action orders, file oppositions and pay registration fees by post.
The IPD has extended the deadlines for filing a response to the IPD office action order, paying a registration fee, and filing an opposition that failed between 28th March 2025 and 7th April 2025 to 18th April 2025.
