On 18^th January 2022, the Prime Minister of Thailand (represented by one of the Deputy Prime Ministers) approved the appointment of the Chair of the PDPC and its nine expert committees with prior approval of the Cabinet and as proposed by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society under the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (“PDPA”). The appointment was published in the Government Gazette on the same day and became effective retroactively on and from 11^th January 2022.

The PDPC consists of the Chairman (Mr. Thienchai Na Nakorn), five ex officio committees (the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister Office, the Secretary-General of the Council of State, the Secretary-General of the Consumer Protection Board, the Director-General of the Rights and Liberties Protection Department, and the Attorney General), nine expert committees (in the fields of personal data protection, consumer protection, IT and communication, social science, law and regulation, public health, finance and government information management), and the Secretary-General of the PDPC.

The PDPC is expected to issue a large number of PDPA implementation rules in 2022.  The PDPC may issue some of them prior to 1^st June 2022, the full enforcement date of the PDPA.  The full enforcement date of the PDPC has been postponed twice in 2020 and 2021.
